UN Women launched HeForShe IMPACT 10X10X10 Project in 2014. They collaborated with ten heads of State, ten global CEOs and ten leading university’s presidents.
UN Women is the UN organization dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women. A global champion for women and girls, UN Women was established to accelerate progress on meeting their needs worldwide.
The first-ever HeForShe IMPACT 10x10x10 University Parity Report is unveiled showing workforce gender diversity figures.
The findings were unveiled during the World Economic Forum annual meeting in Davos at an IMPACT 10x10x10 event attended by the firm’s CEOs, alongside Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women, and UN Women Goodwill Ambassador Emma Watson.
Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka:
Education is one of the most powerful tools for social transformation and is a crucial means to achieve our goal.
Emma Watson:
A good university is a tiny utopia – it is a miniature model of how the whole society could look.
Now one year after the launch, UN Women have built a cohort of dedicated gender equality leaders from ten of the world’s most prominent corporations – AccorHotels, Barclays, Koç Holding, McKinsey & Company, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Schneider Electric, Tupperware Brands, Twitter, Unilever and Vodafone. This global team of champions has committed to real change within and beyond their own institutions, on an ambitious timeline. The transparency displayed in the HeForShe Parity Report will provide an important tool to Corporate IMPACT Champions to measure commitments and inspire action from other employers.
The report figures show that a gap remains between the representation of women in the workforce and in leadership positions. Overall representation of women averaged 39.7% across the ten firms, while senior leadership roles held by women ranged from 11.0% to 33.0%. While this outperforms global averages, UN Women has set parity as the goal of its Planet 50-50 drive for gender equality, and the IMPACT commitments put forward by these firms reflect a variety of pathways to achieve it.
Mustafa Koç – Chairman Koç Holding was Corporate IMPACT Champion. Unfortunately, he passed away on January 21, 2016, in Istanbul, just one day before flying to Davos. Today Koç Holding’s support to HeForShe project continuful businessperson speaking about the project and its goals:
“We are proud to announce our commitment as an IMPACT 10x10x10 champion. We are inviting our employees and men across Turkey to join us in acting for gender equality.
Fund implementation of the HeForShe campaign in Turkey & mobilize four million supporters by 2017.
We will mobilize four million people across Turkey to speak up and join the conversation on gender equality. We are lending their considerable local influence on HeForShe. In collaboration with UN Women, we developed the HeForShe campaign’s Turkish communication and PR strategy. Since the campaign launch in March, we have engaged with the media, sponsored the creation and production of communication materials, and worked closely with key local celebrities and opinion leaders to raise the profile of HeForShe. Going forward, we will drive HeForShe within and beyond Turkey, using its international brands to disseminate the campaign to over 8,000 employees in countries including South Africa and China.
We develop a series of policies that will create the environment for women’s success, transform their corporate culture, and set the gold standard for Turkish companies. We aim to increase the share of women at every level—from entry-level to the executive level. To support and inform this process, we will implement a new policy, our Principles on Equality, mandating gender-sensitive recruitment practices, flexible systems, and parity in professional development programs.”
HeForShe project has reached approximately 1.3 billion commitments. You can join this action by saying “I commit” This commitment brings famous figures as Barack Obama, Matt Damon, Usain Bolt, Kiefer Sutherland together and many other celebrities, artists, and businessperson.
Actor Kerem Bursin became the first National HeForShe Advocate:
As men, we should walk hand in hand with women towards our goal of achieving gender equality. We need to eliminate gender stereotypes and unite to achieve an equal future for all women and girls.
Our duty as men and boys is first to be aware of the privileges that come with being a man, and second, to question these privileges and transform them.
Being nominated as a HeForShe Advocate in the wake of covid-19, a pandemic that is exacerbating gender inequalities, makes me proud and assigns me a very important responsibility
I was one of the first followers of HeForShe project in 2016.
I titled my writing as - sick of - because I think to talk about gender equality is an insult to Women.
World is not equal.
Think of Africa, the continent is under heavy pressure of poverty, drought, and covid 19 is an add on. We gossip that Africa is an experiment laboratory for the rest of the world. Same story for years like gender equality.
I worry for women and children and animals.
